Q: What is ADHD coaching?
A: ADHD Coaching gives individuals a dedicated time/place where they have the chance to reflect on the ways in which ADHD may be impacting things that are going on in their life or their family. ADHD coaching is a goal-oriented and collaborative approach that helps individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) develop skills, strategies, and techniques to manage their symptoms and improve their overall functioning. Coaches work with clients to set and achieve specific goals, create structure and routines, enhance time management skills, and improve self-awareness and self-regulation.
Q: Who can benefit from ADHD coaching?
A: ADHD coaching is beneficial for individuals of all ages who have been diagnosed with ADHD or suspect they may have ADHD. It is also helpful for parents or caregivers of individuals with ADHD who are looking for support in managing their child's symptoms. ADHD coaching can benefit individuals who are struggling with executive function skills such as time management, organization, prioritization, motivation, self-regulation, as well as other challenges associated with ADHD.
Q: What does an ADHD coach do?
A: An ADHD coach works collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths, challenges, and goals. They provide support, guidance, and accountability to help clients develop and implement strategies to manage their ADHD symptoms. ADHD coaches use various techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness techniques, and motivational interviewing to help clients improve their executive functioning skills, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.
Q: How is ADHD coaching different from therapy or counseling?
A: While therapy or counseling focuses on exploring and resolving emotional or psychological issues, ADHD coaching is a practical and action-oriented approach that focuses on building skills, strategies, and techniques to manage ADHD symptoms. ADHD coaching is not a substitute for therapy or counseling, but rather a complementary approach that can be used in conjunction with other therapeutic interventions.
Coaching is a way to promote well-being and not designed to help a client heal or deal with psychological barriers to growth. Coaching can help clear out the executive functioning roadblocks that may be getting in the way of making true progress and healing in their therapeutic journey. With these roadblocks removed it is often easier for a client to do the work with their therapist required to manage any co-occurring mental health issues.
Q: How long does ADHD coaching typically last?
A: The duration of ADHD coaching can vary depending on the individual's needs, goals, and progress. Coaching sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and can be conducted in person or via video conferencing. The overall length of coaching engagement can range from a few months to a year or more, depending on the individual's progress and goals. Often there comes a point when a client has developed skills they need to thrive in their current situation and they can enter the maintenance phase, coming to coaching when they need a tune up due to life changes or their strategies needing to be “resparkalized” for their brains.
Q: How much does ADHD coaching cost?
A: Coaching fees are charged on an hourly basis or in package deals. My current rate is $125/session and each session lasts approximately 1 hour. I offer a discounted rate of $400 for a package of 4 sessions. Regardless of the package chosen, the initial intake session is $175 and lasts approximately 90 minutes. Payment must be made prior to the session.
